The purpose of this award is to encourage innovative science at the annual conference by postdoctoral researchers by supporting travel-associated expenses of the fellow. The Councilors will select up to five postdoctoral researchers based upon the scientific merit of their abstract submission and their career commitment to the chemical senses field as determined from their biosketch (see below).
Funding for these awards is generously provided by the Polak Foundation.
To be eligible, applicants must be AChemS members in good standing and at the career stage of a postdoctoral fellow, clinical resident, or scientific equivalent. There is no time restriction from the awarding of the Ph.D., however, applicants must not have received this award in the past. The Councilors will only select one postdoctoral fellow from a given laboratory in the award year. They encourage international fellows and those with financial need to apply, although these will not be preferential award criteria. To receive the award ($1000 per researcher), the researcher must be the first author on an abstract and be present for the Welcome/Awards Ceremony on opening night of the Annual Meeting, during which special recognition will be given to the Ernest Polak Family.
HOW TO APPLY
All applications for the Polak Postdoctoral Travel Awards should be submitted via the online abstract submission system. During the application process, you will be asked to upload a PDF copy of your biosketch in NIH format.
